Frequently Asked Questions
How does this time tracker save my data?
All your data is saved locally in your browser's localStorage. This means your projects and time entries persist between sessions on the same browser and device. However, clearing your browser data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browsers or devices will start fresh. For critical data, we recommend regularly noting down your totals.
Can I track time for multiple projects?
Yes, you can create unlimited projects, each with their own name, client name, and hourly rate. The timer can only run on one project at a time, but you can quickly switch between projects. Each project maintains its own list of time entries with a running total.
What happens if I close my browser while the timer is running?
The timer state is saved when you start it. If you close your browser or navigate away, when you return the timer will continue from where it started - not paused at where you left. This ensures accurate tracking even if you forget to check back.
Can I add time entries manually?
Yes, click 'Add time manually' to create entries without using the timer. This is useful for recording time spent away from your computer or correcting missed entries. You select the project, date, and start/end times.
How do I calculate billable amounts?
When you create a project, you can set an hourly rate. The tracker automatically calculates the total billable amount based on hours tracked multiplied by your hourly rate. Leave the rate at zero if you don't need billing calculations.
Can I edit or delete time entries?
Yes, expand any project to see its time entries. Each entry has edit and delete buttons. You can modify the date and start/end times of any entry, or remove entries entirely. You can also delete entire projects with all their entries.
Is this time tracker suitable for teams?
This tracker is designed for individual use on a single device. Since data is stored in your browser, it cannot be shared between team members or devices. For team time tracking, you would need a cloud-based solution with user accounts.
