Local SEO guide for Welsh businesses
If you run a business in Wales, local SEO is one of the most important things you can do online. It is how customers in your area find you when they search on Google.
Start with Google Business Profile (it is free). Claim your listing, fill in every field, add photos, and make sure your name, address, and phone number match exactly what is on your website. This is the single biggest factor in local search rankings.
Your website needs location-specific content. Do not just say 'we serve customers'. Say 'we serve customers in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, and across South Wales'. Create separate pages for each area you cover if possible. Google needs to know where you operate.
Reviews matter enormously. Ask happy customers to leave a Google review. Respond to every review, good or bad. Businesses with more reviews and higher ratings consistently rank higher in local search results. Aim for at least 10 reviews to start seeing an impact.
Make sure your site is mobile-friendly and loads fast. Over 60% of local searches happen on phones. If your site is slow or hard to use on mobile, Google will rank your competitors above you. Page speed is a direct ranking factor.
Finally, get listed in local directories. Yell, Thomson Local, Yelp, and industry-specific directories all help. The key is consistency. Your business name, address, and phone number should be identical everywhere they appear online. Even small differences (like 'Road' vs 'Rd') can confuse search engines.
