How to choose a web designer
Choosing a web designer can feel overwhelming. There are thousands of agencies and freelancers out there, all claiming to be the best. Here is how to find the right one for your business.
Start by looking at their portfolio. Not just whether the sites look nice, but whether they are similar to what you need. If you run a cafe and they have only built corporate sites, they might not understand your audience. Ask for examples in your industry.
Check their reviews and testimonials. Google reviews are the most reliable because they are hard to fake. Look for specific mentions of communication, deadlines, and ongoing support. A beautiful website means nothing if the process of getting it was a nightmare.
Ask about their process. A good agency will want to understand your business before they start designing. Be wary of anyone who jumps straight to showing you templates without asking what you need. Also ask who will actually be building your site. Some agencies outsource the work overseas.
Talk about ongoing costs. The build price is just the start. Ask about hosting, maintenance, domain renewal, and what happens if you need changes made later. Get everything in writing before you commit.
Finally, trust your gut. You will be working with this person or team for weeks, and hopefully years if they do a good job. If the communication feels off during the sales process, it will not get better after they have got your money.
